What's been announced

Germany's Federal Ministry for Economy and Energy (BMWE) published the tender for the "technical-organisational implementation of the German participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade" on 25 August 2025, on the federal e-procurement platform e-Vergabe. The budget is €7.5 million excluding German VAT, with a contract running from 11 May 2026 to 31 December 2027 and at least three qualifying companies competing in a negotiation procedure. A separate €450,000 consultancy contract covers planning and construction advice.

The German Pavilion has a gross floor area of 972 m² in the Expo's "Large" category. The building shell is expected to be handed over by the Expo organizer around 15 October 2026, after which Germany fits it out independently inside and out — the tendered services span concept development, planning, interior and exterior fit-out, technical management, dismantling and transport.

Germany's contribution is planned under the Expo sub-theme "Play for Progress", aiming to provide what the tender documents call an attractive contribution to the overall theme "Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All".

The tender has since been decided: on 28 May 2026, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH was announced as the company with overall responsibility for realizing and operating the German Pavilion, with the concept and cultural programme by Cologne agency facts and fiction. Further EU-wide sub-procurements (communication, catering, shop) are expected on Germany's e-procurement platform.

Where to find the Germany pavilion

National pavilions sit in the International Participant Area of the 25-hectare Expo site at Surčin, in the western part of Belgrade — the zone that becomes the city's new Belgrade Fair after the event. The site is about 5 km from Nikola Tesla Airport and roughly 13.5 km southwest of central Belgrade (official planning figures), so if you fly in, you land closer to the Expo grounds than to town. Exact positions within the zones haven't been published yet; we'll add the location when the site plan lands.
