What Savamala is like
Savamala runs along the Sava between the old town and the river. Once a faded warehouse district, it became Belgrade's creative-and-nightlife hub, and it now sits next to the large, modern Belgrade Waterfront (Beograd na vodi) project with its towers, mall and promenade.
The result is a area of contrasts: heritage facades and clubs on one side, shiny new riverfront on the other. It's lively after dark and convenient to the centre, but it's a working, changing district rather than a polished one.
Who should stay here
A good fit if you want: nightlife, modern riverfront stays, design and architecture fans.
Maybe look elsewhere if you're after: light sleepers near clubs, travellers wanting a traditional old-town feel.
Getting around
Walkable to the old town; the riverfront promenade and free city transport make the rest easy. Some streets are busy with traffic.
Where to stay & what's nearby
Newer apartments and hotels, especially around the Waterfront, plus characterful conversions. Good for nightlife and river views; check noise if you want quiet.
Nearby: Belgrade Waterfront & Galerija mall, Sava promenade, the old town, Beton Hala.
Common questions
Is Savamala a good area to stay in Belgrade?
It's a good base if you want nightlife, the river and modern accommodation close to the centre. It blends a creative bar-and-club scene with the new Belgrade Waterfront development, all a short walk from the old town — though it's livelier and more in-flux than the historic core.
Is Savamala safe at night?
It's a busy, popular nightlife area and generally fine with the usual city-centre care. As anywhere with crowds and bars, watch your belongings and use registered taxis or apps late at night.
